Two wins on the
bounce has seen the Witches finally move of the bottom of the elite
league and no longer is Prozac needed to look at the standings. Ok,
so the wins were against a very weak Oxford side and a depleted
Reading team who needed the generosity of Ipswich just to field a
team, but it was two wins that saw some fine performances.
The best performances has come from Tobias Kroner, scoring an
impressive 12 against Oxford then carrying on that form with a 9 as
some of Reading came to town.
There was some criticism early on in the season of this young rider,
but he has managed to work out how to ride the Foxhall track and is
scoring heavily from the reserve spot. He seems to be taking full
advantage of the experience that surrounds him and lodging with
Loram is the biggest benefit.
Unfortunately, the Witches couldn’t carry on their winning streak,
(I know it cant really be called a streak, but we need all we can to
keep smiling) as they once again crashed to a heavy defeat at
Lakeside.
This defeat leaves the Witches still searching for their first away
victory of the season, and this is going to be the big issue for the
season.
We have shown that we are capable of beating teams at Foxhall, and
hopefully a few wins against some of the big guns is on the cards,
but it’s the away form that is the most worrying thing this season.
If we are to avoid finishing up with the wooden spoon then the team
must start performing away from home.
So where are the Witches most likely to pick up an away win, that
would hopefully lead to us picking up the bonus point?
One place that I believe the Witches are capable of picking up a the
victory is at Eastbourne. The Witches will ride against the Eagles
at Foxhall on Thursday then travel to Arlington on Saturday.
Eastbourne are there for the taking at Foxhall, confidence will be
up after the two excellent results in the past week, and riders are
starting to perform.
Chris Louis has been scoring well recently and Miskowiak has also
been performing well for the team. The weakest link in the team is
Rempala, who has struggled for form all season .
The team need him to start contributing more if results against some
of the better teams are to be achieved.
From what I have seen this season, Rempala has even looked likely to
start performing and has looked well of the pace, but all that is
needed is one good meeting that will give him more confidence, which
in turn will lead to more points.
The league seems to be split into three sections, the top three who
are pulling evermore further away from the league, then there is the
next five, which Eastbourne are the weakest link, and then the
bottom three.
Although I am not saying that a win is guaranteed for the Witches,
they will have to work very hard if they are to get the result,
especially at Arlington where the Eagles have only lost twice all
season, both to the impressive Coventry.
But I do believe that the Witches can spring a surprise and gain
more points to catch up with the teams above them.
There have been some rumours flying around the world of speedway
that Jesper B Jensen has deliberately been under performing for
Oxford so he can move to Peterborough.
If this is true it is damaging to the sport. Jensen has said that
this is completely untrue and that he has genuinely lost his form
this season, and has no idea about what is going to happen in the
future.
The sport took a further battering on Thursday, when an already
under strength Reading team arrived to take on the Witches, Greg
Hancock and Martin Zagar failed to turn up. This news was not
relayed to the spectators until they had arrived at the stadium,
leading to many saying the public relations where non existent in
speedway and that they are being taken for granted as many wouldn’t
have turned up if they had know about the whole situation.
You cannot, in my opinion blame either of the promotions for this.
They cannot be in control of the riders all the time. Blame has to
lie squarely with the two riders, who failed to ensure that they
were able to ride at the meeting.
But this incident just shows where the top riders priorities are.
The Elite league bills itself as being the best in the world, but
when there is such a gap in a league where there are only eleven
teams and riders prefer to concentrate in on their teams on the
continent how can the officials continue to claim this.
There are at the moment three teams that are not really competitive
with the other teams, and many of the meetings being very one sided,
a visit to an Elite league meeting can be very boring.
Something has to be done to bring back the magic into the top
British league, make meetings more competitive and some way of
making the top riders want to ride here.
I would just like to say get well soon to Stoke Potters’ rider Gary
Stead who suffered an horrific accident last week at Somerset.
I spoke with Gary when I went to Loomer Road to see them ride
against Mildenhall, and we talked about massive accidents, so for
him to then go and have on a week later, just hits home how brave
these riders are to risking their lives for the sport that they
love.
Lets hope the Witches can build on their two wins last week and make
the trip to Foxhall every week a little easier.
NB: Isaac is not
officially connected to the Promotion at Ipswich Speedway and
therefore his views are entirely independent of the Promotion.
